FDC presidential candidate Kizza Besigye addresses supporters in Oyam Town yesterday. |
Oyam/Apac- Forum for Democratic Change presidential candidate Kizza Besigye yesterday told the people of Oyam and Apac districts that he has amassed so much support across the country and that it is only intimidation and voter bribery that can stand in his way to victory.
Dr Besigye, who will today campaign in Kole District and Lira, the capital of Lango sub-region, has substantially shifted his emphasis from seeking support to ensuring that his votes are not stolen.
The FDC leader said he was rigged out of victory on the three previous occasions in 2001, 2006 and 2011.
“If nobody is able to steal our votes, then you can rest assured that the victory will be a very easy one,” Dr Besigye told a gathering in Oyam Town.
While campaigning at Kamudini corner earlier in the day, Dr Besigye had regarded as “empty threats” talk that the country would be plunged into war should President Museveni lose the February 18, general election.
“I can assure you that we are going to defeat him and there will be no war,” Dr Besigye said, adding that Mr Museveni is now too old and devoid of support to wage war.

On war
He also claimed that the President has amassed wealth which he would not want to be destroyed during the war.
Dr Besigye said: “Mr Museveni fought because that time he had nothing to lose, he now has a lot of things (and) he cannot go to fight. He can now only go to his village and live a humble life.”
On money which Dr Besigye said is being “poured” in the villages to bribe voters, he told the gathering in Oyam Town: “The money they are bringing in this election is money they have stolen from us. When they bring it eat it, clean your mouth and ask for more. But having eaten it, make sure those who are bringing do not go through or else you will repay it 10 times (over).”
Although Dr Besigye was earlier scheduled to cover the four remaining districts in three days, he cut them down to two.
After campaigning in Lira today, Dr Besigye will only have Jinja, Kampala and parts of Wakiso left to cover all the 112 districts.
